Artist Spotlight: Phoebe Boswell

We’re so excited to be working with Phoebe for her exhibition ‘Here’, which we can’t wait to share with you once our gallery is back open!

Supporting diversity in artistic practice is just as important to us during this time of uncertainty. Our Artist Spotlight series aims to highlight artists our team find inspirational.

We’re so excited to be working with Phoebe for her exhibition ‘Here’, which we can’t wait to share with you once our gallery is back open!

Her expansive practice merges draftsmanship with digital technology to create layered, open works to house and celebrate stories like her own, stories often marginalised or othered by the (art) world’s dominant voice. Born in Kenya to a Kikuyu mother and British Kenyan father, brought up in the Arabian Gulf and now living and working in London, her work is anchored to what she refers to as a “restless state of diasporic consciousness”.

Through her work, Boswell reminds us that existing truthfully in this world is a struggle, and a constant search for liberating space. She points out something fundamental and often forgotten: that our very existence is a triumph and, despite the structural and systemic injustices that surround us, we are all, nonetheless, still here.
