Sidelong Launch at What’s Your Creative Future

Since September last year I have been part of New Art Exchange’s ExperiMentor programme which supports artist’s professional development and the creation of new work

Since September last year I have been part of New Art Exchange’s ExperiMentor programme which supports artist’s professional development and the creation of new work. I work as part of a collaboration with Jo Dacombe called Sidelong and we are interested in exploring hidden or unnoticed elements of the landscape through art walks. Sidelong have accomplished a lot over the past 6 months that we have been ExperiMentors.

– We have delivered ‘A Walk Through the Underworld’, four cave walks featuring art interventions, performances, and false relics.

– We created a publication ‘A Box of Things’, a box containing texts, small scale relics and other unusual publication formats relating to the myths of Nottingham caves.

– We held an exhibition at New Art Exchange evoking the cave experience through sound clips, film footage, performances, and participatory activities.

Although our ExperiMentor residency is coming to an end, Sidelong have decided to launch a new project at ‘What’s Your Creative Future?’ at New Art Exchange. The project ‘Sound Transposed’ is a curated blog designed to stimulate new ways of experiencing environments and their sounds. Once a month Sidelong will invite the public to follow a new set of creative instructions as a key to unlocking imaginative responses to everyday environments. The outcomes will be published and curated on an online space as an ever-changing, interdisciplinary collection of colourful fleeting moments. For more information, please visit our blog www.soundtransposed.com.

Join us on 10 April, 6.30pm, at New Art Exchange where Sidelong will be launching Sound Transposed.
We will be explaining how you can get involved with the project. In addition, the first set of instructions will be selected randomly by picking descriptive words from a hat.

To confirm attendance to the event ‘What’s Your Creative Future?’ please contact New Art Exchange. 0115 924 8630/www.nae.org.uk. To hear more about Sidelong, please email us at [email protected].
