Wellbeing Weekly: Celebrating International Women’s Day

This week’s blog is the second part of our focus on International Women’s Day – a global day which celebrates and raises awareness of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist, nor to any one organization, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
(Gloria Steinem, feminist, journalist and activist)

This week’s blog is the second part of our focus on International Women’s Day – a global day which celebrates and raises awareness of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day is also a call to action for addressing gender parity, equality for women, and fundraising for female-focussed charities.

International Women’s Day has occurred for 110 years, with the first gathering held in 1911. Every year it has a specific theme and the campaign theme for IWD 2021 is ‘Choose To Challenge’. You can find out more about the history and story of International Women’s Day on their website.

Fempowerment

If you want to get actively involved and make your voice heard, you can take part in a our film project. NAE is part of the Fempowerment collective, which is a partnership between a wide range of community organisations in Nottingham, and this year we are celebrating #InternationalWomensDay2021 by asking women to send in videos of how they have persevered through the pandemic, challenging stereotypes and stigma.

These videos will create a short film which brings the voices of Nottingham women together and will be shared across social media next week.

Find out how to get involved here.
