NEW ART EXCHANGE

4UBU: AT PEACE - FREE INDEPENDENT SUMMER ART SCHOOL

AGES 11-16

These courses aim to develop emotional intelligence, confidence, life skills, and technical skills by focusing on developing confidence and independence while engaging with a variety of creative practices!

The programme is led by Baby People and will consist of dance and music activities. The young people who participate in the school will get an in-depth opportunity to develop a creative project, collaborate and showcase their work.

The theme for the 2021 Independent Summer School is 'Content and at peace', which acknowledges the self-healing and empowering potential of art in helping to express your authentic self. After a challenging year, it is time to recuperate by establishing a public sphere of healing and play in which young people have a collective agency.

This summer school is inspired by the 4UBU project in our Main Gallery and influenced by the framework of the Black Supplementary School movement from the 1960s that supported the learning of Black British children, and was organised on a volunteer basis by parents, teachers, churches and community groups. Be a part of our school community, where we value the cultures and knowledge generated from you.
