Ty Healy

Ty Healy is known in many different circles bringing the same high energy too each performance. Whether you know him through his poetry as one of the four finalists for the official Young Poet Laurette of Nottingham, being a frontman for legendary Nottingham hip-hop band 1st Blood, countless wins in the local battle rap scene, or more recently, for the collaborative efforts with fellow Notts native Nay Loco to form the Duo ‘Local Healers’. Ty pushes his positive and unapologetically black message with love and passion with a charismatic presence on stage.

Ty & Nay reignited Nottingham’s live music scene for as far as Hip-Hop is concerned; in 2019 the two did non-stop performances from the top of the year to the bottom at the same time as recording tons of music. While Covid restrictions have slowed down the performances it has not made the group any less Prolific in 2020 as they have already released an Album (2 Shades Deep) and an EP (Sons Of Sakanoue) and now are set to release their 3rd project with another Nottingham Vet Louis Cypher. This particular project ‘Paintings On The Wall’ is an ode to the Art community as the Government has essentially turned their back on us. This project is a middle finger to the campaign ‘Rethink, Reskill, Reboot’; Instead, the boys are standing tall saying “This is what we do, and we will find ways to do it regardless!”

Afro Queen

Hailing from Birmingham, Afro Queen first picked up a pen at 10 years old when she began writing poetry. At the age of 14, like most of her peers, she decided to try her hand at Grime, using the 140 bpm artform to hone in on her craft, allowing her to fully understand how to express herself over an instrumental, before she chose to take music seriously at 18 years old.

Afro Queen’s music show’s growth, describing it as her “second language”, which in turn allows her to speak to audiences with a level of honesty and effortlessness rarely seen, as she details what life is like for a young female dealing with the twists and turns of growing up in the inner city. With her unique blend of R&B, Soul and Hip-Hop, Afro Queen say’s her main influences in music have been Etta Bond & Erykah Badu. With her ability to rap, as well as sing, Afro Queen has gained critical acclaim from her peers, noting that her flow, cadence and her “easy on the ear” tone is what allows her to shine through in a somewhat over crowded scene.
