New Art Exchange
10.30am—12pm / 1pm—2.30pm
LEVEL presents Surface, a light environment in which people are invited to explore projected sculptural forms within an immersive audiovisual installation. Surface creates cloud-like surfaces that you can see, pass through but not touch.
Pioneering the transformative power of the arts, LEVEL seeks to enrich the creative lives of people with learning disabilities. The session will take inspiration from NAE's ethos of celebrating our differences and exploring our identities in a safe space. Group and individual bookings are welcome.
SURFACE is an ephemeral light environment in which people are invited to explore projected sculptural forms within an immersive audio-visual installation. The room is filled with haze and mist, allowing light to create evolving 3D sculptures that fill the space to create performance environments. SURFACE creates cloud-like surfaces you can clearly see, pass through but not touch.
What to expect
SURFACE uses a water-based, non-toxic liquid to create clouds of haze. A series of bright, steady lights are projected in the space. SURFACE does not use any strobe lights. Live sound and drumming is used throughout. The exhibition space will be dark, however a member of the LEVEL team will guide the group into the space and ensure they are comfortable. Please let us know prior to entering the space if anyone is particularly sensitive to any of the features of SURFACE.
Who can attend?
Our work promotes, examines and presents contemporary art in ways that make it accessible and engaging for as many people as possible, including those with complex needs and profound multiple disabilities. SURFACE is suitable for groups of up to 10 people. Each session is expected to last roughly one hour, however participants are welcome to leave the space sooner if they wish.
Free | Ages 18+
