Nottingham Carnival Heritage Showcase

1 Jan, 1970 at 12:00 am - 14 Aug, 2015 at 12:00 am

The story of the Nottingham Carnival, from 1958-2002, is one of achievement against the odds as well as an extraordinary narrative of community development and cohesion; relationship and participation.

The Nottingham Carnival Heritage Project was awarded funds by the Heritage Lottery in 2013 and this event marks the end of the project led by Tuntum Housing Association, with Norma Gregory as Project Co-ordinator (Phase 3), and Nottingham Carnival Trust in association with Stella Vision and NAE.

The project explored many different ways for diverse communities to engage and learn from Carnival histories, giving local people a chance to participate and continue to build on carnival traditions for the future.

Come and join us to view the research materials this project has uncovered in a new pop up exhibition, hear from the project partners and volunteers and see carnival costumes and dance routines from the past. Stella Vision will be showcasing clips from the Carnival Heritage film and the launch of the new Nottingham’s Carnival Heritage website. Come and listen to a fusion of sounds from Calypso, Reggae and Socca, played by local DJ’s showcasing the very best of Carnival music.

Light refreshments provided.
