New Art Exchange
Join us this weekend for SAC, led by Associate Artists Susanna Clark.
Circus Troupes all around the world have used movement to inspire and bring joy to people for over a hundred years. How can we incorporate this movement into the art we make? We will look at images from historical Indian Circus troupes such as the Great Royal Circus and modern day Indian acrobats, accompanied by snippets of autobiographies revealing the history and physical culture of these troupes as they travelled around South Asia from the nineteenth century up to the present day.
How can we appreciate those fast flashes of colour and the split-second movements of the acrobats in the moment? We will be making our own ribbon wands from traditional Indian fabric and drawing trapeze artists which will be threaded together to make a communal art piece.
