The Film Open

NAE’s annual Film Open returns this summer! The Film Open is a unique opportunity for Nottingham-based film-makers to showcase their talent. Participants will gain critical yet supportive reflection on their work from peers and other film enthusiasts. The Film Open provides a platform for film-makers at various stages in their career to share their work and to network.

The selected films for 2015 are as follows:

Life in A4 Pixels by Lee Ramsey

Lee decided to play on a simplistic style using 2d a4 paper style cutouts of everyday objects placed in a 3d environment. Lee wanted all the complexity of the real world with depth and emotion, but seen in a childish like view. The piano section was a little medley Lee created for a piece of poetry he never wrote!

The Platform by Elmz

Elmz is a 21 year old independent emerging Rap Artist, Poet and Songwriter. Elmz, is determined to be an entrepreneur using his natural creativity. Penning his first song at age 12. Elmz won Def Jam’s song writing contest which led him to meet Tinchy Stryder and other artists. Currently working on his debut EP “Don’t Look Down” before releasing his album “Knight”.

Elevator Man by Tom Auzins

Tom is from Riga in Latvia, and moved to the UK in 2013; Tom is currently studying Film and TV at NCN. Lee started filming 4 or 5 years ago, his first projects were rollerblading and skate videos, since then he has slowly built up his video range.

Dear Little Emmie by Francesco Sala and Adam Oehlers

Francesco Sala is an artist and 3D character animator for video games based in London. He has been working on independent projects for a few years and has dedicated his skills to Adam Oehler’s vision and bringing his stories to life through animation.

Climbing and Jumping Over Hurdles by Sarah Astill

“CLIMBING AND JUMPING OVER HURDLES” is Sarah’s first Director/Written Short Film. Sarah also writes Shorts as well as one off Monologues. Sarah is also an actress with experience in Short Films, Feature, Theatre, Live Performance, Accents and Dialects as well as using her knowledge of Ju Jitsu in Short Films.

Strange Occurence by Michael Kenneth Stewart

Michael Kenneth Stewart is an actor, writer, artist. Theatre includes ‘Dial M For Murder'(Nice, France), ‘An Ideal Husband’ (Tabard, London), ‘The King and I’ (Curve, Leicester). Films include ‘The Grand’. Novel ‘South To Sonora’ published 2013. Adaptations of ‘Dracula’ and ‘Uncle Vanya’ performed London, 2012. Original plays also professionally performed. Has exhibited paintings in London/Miami.

Stress by Ryan Tomlin

Tomlin initially took an interest in videomaking during his time in secondary school, spending a number of years creating online vlogs and various comedy sketches. After becoming a student of the Northern Film School, Tomlin took to writing books with his end goal of having these created into films.

Asian Women: Work and Struggle by Kajal Nisha Patel

Kajal Nisha Patel is an award-winning photographer. She is documenting the British South Asian experience, concentrating on issues around cultural conflict and bereavement, assimilation and the formation of new identities. She has exhibited in venues across the UK and internationally, including The Southbank Centre; London, Neubacher Shor Contemporary; Toronto and was featured at the 2013 TEDx AshokaU exchange, San Diego.

Falling by Guy Jenkins (Allergic Films)

Guy Jenkins – Nottingham based filmmaker. His portfolio includes working within the film/TV industry, producing corporate videos/music videos for independent artists.

Music video for London raised spoken word artist Raphael Blake.
