Women in Music

28 November 2015, 2pm – 4.30pm

Why is 'female' still a music award category? Why are only 5% of Producers industry-wide female? What challenges do women in the industry experience in the face of historic discrimination and ongoing sexism? Women working in music, both in front and behind the mic, share the challenges they have experienced during their careers. Join us to look at the industry from grassroots up as we take a temperature check on where women are heading. Listen to our panellist's stories, including Valerie 'Lady V' Robinson from V Rocket International, Helen 'DJ Princess' Bembridge' from Nottingham's own Reggae Takeover, Colette Hutton, drummer of punk band the Smears and Emma O'Neill, singer and guitarist of the Smears. Join them, led by Chair Jackie P from Kemet FM and share your experience.
