Adam Yahya Davies: Brown Balaclava

3 June 2017 - 9 July 2017

Central Gallery

Part of XXI: Nottingham Trent University's BA Photography Degree Show Festival

Each year New Art Exchange comes together with Nottingham Trent University as a partner venue to exhibit selected artists from amongst the final year group. Endeavouring to support creative practitioners at degree and postgraduate level as they step into the wider professional arts arena, this year NAE presents the work of third year student Adam Yahya Davies

This exhibition presents selected pages from Davies' photo book Brown Balaclava, a body of photographs and poetry which explore the artist's complex personal relationship with religion, faith, and race. Throughout, Davies poses while wearing a brown balaclava, reflecting that his race and ethnicity have inextricably shaped his lived experience. Through composed, considered photographs and short, direct pieces of writing, Davies analyses and documents the everyday occurrences, both good and bad, which have shaped his attitudes to faith and culture.
