Launch event: 10 August 2013, 12PM - 2PM
Michelle Walsh is a photographer based in the East Midlands. Her interests are in contemporary portraiture, influenced by psychology and consciousness studies, as well as the exploration of photography as a contemplative art form.
This exhibition has developed from Michelle's ExperiMentor project with NAE. Using the venue as a base, Michelle visited the spaces where Nottingham people come together to engage in contemplative practices associated with a variety of religious and secular traditions. The individuals depicted within the exhibition were photographed and filmed by Michelle immediately following meditation, prayer, yoga or devotional song. The collection seeks to ask how such practices affect our conscious state of being and whether the 'disappearing into presence', frequently described as a result of such practices, can be reflected in portrait?
