We are thrilled to introduce Ismail Khokon as our new Explore Art Club Leader. Find out more about Explore Art Club.

“As a child I loved to draw and paint. When I was ten, I went to the Bangladesh National Children’s Academy for Art and Culture at week-ends to develop my creative interests. I also took part in various art competitions. My wonderful teacher encouraged me greatly and eventually gave me the responsibility of looking after the Academy when he moved to the UK. My experience in teaching art began early.

I left Bangladesh for the UK with a solid foundation in Fine Art and continued my interests with a Masters Degree in Design For Communication from the University Of Westminster in London. I was for a time a Youth Ambassador at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, as well as in Brady Art Centre. I also completed a diploma course in Digital Illustration and Commercial Photoshop.

Before I moved to Nottingham I lived in Poland for a few years and was a jury member for the Children’s International Festival organised by Culture Caravan.

My areas of practice include painting, photography, sculpture text, installation, graphic design illustration and poetry.

Currently, I am working on a project based on Covid 19 and Creativity. The Reframed photography network will publish my recent work.

I am now facilitating the Explore Art Club at NAE, and assisting with the Own Art Club.

From my own experience as a child and now as a father of two children, I am convinced that encouraging young people to express themselves visually is not only life-enhancing for them, but also important for their connection to the wider world.”
