Afro Hair Party

1 Jan, 1970 at 12:00 am - 20 Nov, 2016 at 12:00 am

Want to contribute to a future exhibition at New Art Exchange? Then join us for an Afro Hair Party!

Plaits, dreadlocks, relaxed, cornrows, bantu knots, finger waves, twists and braids… our hair comes in many shapes and styles. Join us at New Art Exchange for an Afro Hair Party as we celebrate the significance of hair.

During the day, you can take a trip down memory lane with the National Caribbean Heritage Museum as they share some hair and beauty memorabilia from the past 50 years. Everyone will then be invited to contribute to our video blog and pose for a professional photo portrait – so why not come along wearing your hair the way it best expresses you! During the session we want to hear about your hair journey and explore what your hair means to you, what it means to the outside world and what it means to the Black community. Free tea, cake and Caribbean patties for everyone who attends!

Digital copies of your photo portraits will be given to all participants. If you would like to join us as we discuss our hair, we would love to hear from you. Places are limited so please contact Safiya ([email protected] / 0115 924 8630), to find out more or book your place.

In collaboration with Museumand, The National Caribbean Heritage Museum.
