We invite you to join us for the unveiling of Hyson Green’s newest community mural and Nottingham’s first black history mural.

New Art Exchange (NAE) and The Centre for Research in Race and Rights (C3R) at the University of Nottingham have worked with the local community on a four-month project to transform an old wall in Hyson Green into a vibrant and inspiring piece of public art.

The brand new mural celebrates Nottingham’s black history, depicts the diverse histories and potential futures of Nottingham’s Global Quarter in Hyson Green, and explores the ideas of utopia and community activism. It is the creation of artists Tim Weedon and Andrew Wright in collaboration with Maxine Davis,Youth Forum Manager and young people from NG7 Voices Youth Forum/Hyson Green Youth Club. The project has been managed by Freelance Community Engagement Consultant Bo Olawoye.

Guest contributors to the project’s learning seminars have been Lisa Robinson from Bright Ideas and Black Lives Matter Nottingham; Panya Banjoko and Ioney Smallhorne from Nottingham Black Archives; Zoe Trodd, Hannah Jeffery and Hannah-Rose Murray from C3R. The mural project will be featured at a Somerset House exhibit in 2016, curated by Hannah Jeffery and Rebecca Nelson.

The event at New Art Exchange will include food, drinks, speeches by special guests, an unveiling, and a performance.
