I ONCE WAS HELD FOR 1,000 YEARS

1 Jan, 1970 at 12:00 am - 23 Sep, 2021 at 12:00 am

This immersive poetry performance is an invitation into the written psyche of Arit Emmanuela Etukudo through her private journal entries and published poetry collection “You will be back”. Some of the entries read during this performance were also featured in her newest work showing in a group exhibition titled “In reality these things need to be said” at Backlit Gallery, Nottingham (6’“29 August).

“I once was held for 1,000 years” is a chronicle, a conversation, a communion and a christening told in four parts. The Becoming, The Reflection, The Shedding and The Retrieval. For this newly commissioned performance, Etukudo combines sound, projection, readings from her journals and her poetry collection to give voice to the past, present and future; before birth, during life, and after death.
