Imagining History with Sunil Shah

1 Jan, 1970 at 12:00 am - 8 Jan, 2015 at 12:00 am

Artist Sunil Shah guides you through Zarina Bhimji’s exhibition and hosts a talk about imagining, visualising and re-presenting history. Bring in a family photograph which will become the basis for group discussions on real and fictive interpretations.

Shah’s personal Ugandan Asian history shown at New Art Exchange as Uganda Stories earlier this year is influenced by Bhimji’s works. The artists’ shared history becomes a departure for deeply subjective practices that play with ideas of perception, metaphor and visual poetry, offering possibilities where narratives emerge outside of the mainstream.

This open session invites informal discussion, sharing of family stories through photographs brought in, allowing an exploration into the potential that lies within the still and moving image.
