Racial Equality and Antiracism: How to Rethink Identity and Belonging

Join us for the third Get Up Stand Up Debate!
Get Up Stand Up is a collaboration between New Art Exchange and NCCL at Galleries of Justice Museum, exploring the idea of international civil rights. Our monthly dialogue series accompanies the exhibition and offers provocative conversation, audience debate and final action points, on topics ranging from the criminal justice system to immigration to the Black Lives Matter movement.
On July 9, guest speakers Jagdish Patel (The Monitoring Group), Janna Graham (Centre for Possible Studies / Nottingham Contemporary) and Professor Lauri Johnson (Boston College) will debate “Racial Equality and Antiracism: How to Rethink Identity and Belonging”. How can we explore racism and identity in new ways in museums, galleries, schools or in the community? How can we advance race relations by means of education, art and awareness raising? How do imaginative modes of exchange become political – how can we use innovative formats to challenge discrimination (art, culture, drama, poetry, photography)?

A series of five part dialogues developed in partnership with Professor Zoe Trodd from the Centre for Research in Race and Rights (University of Nottingham) and Bo Olawoye, Freelance Learning Curator/ Chair – Get Up Stand Up Debates.
