Reading Beyond: Black Feminist Geographies

30 May, 2022 at 2:30 pm

‘Reading Beyond’ is an informal reading group and forum part of the ongoing ‘Beyond Black History Month’ programme in collaboration with All Black Connect’s ‘Between The Lines Book Club’.

Join us for these critical conversations where we will collectively discuss texts by black authors that speak to socio-political urgencies, historical, and ecological themes related to black life. The chosen writings will flow between local, national, and global contexts to catalyse new perspectives and expand on existing knowledge within the group.

For this gathering, ABC member and artist, Chantelle Fagan-Clarke has curated a selection of three texts by Scottish-Zimbabwean artist Natasha Thembiso Ruwona: The Ocean Will Always Remember; Umbilic Script For Moving Image 2020-21; and Grin: Expectations of Generosity. The texts explore Black Feminist Geographies, Ecologies, poetics of the landscape (particularly water and sea). You can watch Umbilic here.

We will be joined by Natasha who will talk about their work and join in the discussion.

Please book to receive the extracts and read the texts before attending the event. This event will be held online via Zoom. If you have any accessibility requirements for the event, please contact [email protected].
