As a migrant, born in Jamaica and raised in Nottingham, Lorna Holder became a successful designer ‘making it happen’ in Britain, and her story bears witness to the evolution of fashion within the British Caribbean community. Join Lorna for
a reading from her new book ‘Style in My DNA’, tracing fashion trends from the 1940s to the present day. Lorna will be joined in-conversation with George Ruddock,Managing Editor and a Director of the publishers of The Voice newspaper, followed by a book signing.

Lorna Holder has over 35 years’ experience in the creative and cultural industries. She graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 1975, with BA Honours in Fashion & Textile. Lorna has delivered six Heritage Lottery Fund productions. Produced/directed the plays “Living Under One Roof,” “The Ones We Left Behind”, “Moving Out” and documentaries “Building Bridges,” and “Hanging Out. “She curated the “Jamaica Hidden Histories” exhibition and her business archives are at the London Metropolitan Archives. Lorna is a member of the Board of Governors for Nottingham Trent University.
The Voice, founded in 1982, is the only British national black weekly newspaper operating in the United Kingdom.
George Ruddock is Managing Editor and a Director of GV Media Group Ltd, publishers of The Voice newspaper, The Voice Online and the Weekly Gleaner newspaper. He has been in publishing for over 30 years, both in the UK and the Caribbean. After honing his journalism career at The Daily Gleaner newspaper in Jamaica for over 10 years, he joined The Gleaner Company (UK) Ltd in January 1988 as Editor for the Weekly Gleaner newspaper before taking over as Managing Director in 1992. He played a major role in The Gleaner Company (UK) Limited’s acquisition of The Voice Newspaper Group in May 2004 and was appointed Deputy Managing Director of the newly merged company, GV Media Group Ltd. He was appointed Acting Managing Director of GV Media Group Ltd in November 2006 and also took on the role of Editor of Britain’s leading black newspaper The Voice in October 2011.
