The Good, The Bad and The Magic Flute!

Join us for a pop-up performance from Streetwise Opera in our Main Gallery space.
Streetwise Opera respond to the stylised and empowering works of artist Hassan Hajjaj through the lens of an East African Lullaby and Mozart’s classic opera in search of truth, love and enlightenment, The Magic Flute.
During a series of artist talks and creative afternoons, participants in Streetwise Opera’s workshops at Theatre Royal Concert Hall and Emmanuel House Support Centre in Nottingham explored The Path at New Art Exchange, which presents the work of Moroccan born, London based artist Hassan Hajjaj in a unique and timely consideration of culture and identity in the modern globalized world.
Inspired by the transformative qualities of the photographic series Dakka Marrakchia, which depicts vibrant cinematic portraits of chic biker girls who playfully challenge western preconceptions of Arabic society and the vivid magnification of British cultural identities presented in My Rock Stars.
Streetwise Opera invite you into a world where nothing is as it first appears and where hyper-realities collide. Meet the Queen of the Night, The Priest of the Sun and Prince Tamino as you have never seen them before.

Streetwise Opera is an award-wining performing arts charity for people who are or have been homeless. We run creative programmes in London, Manchester, Newcastle and Gateshead, Nottingham, and Teesside, and stage critically-acclaimed operas.
Our productions platform the skills of our performers in a professional arena, showing that whatever life throws at them, they can achieve great things. Underpinning these, our workshop programme offers a dependable source of creativity in lives where everything else can be changing.
Our most recent production, Tell Me The Truth About Love (Sage, Gateshead, April 2018) in partnership with Royal Northern Sinfonia, was described as ‘a powerful and inspiring show’ (The Guardian) and ‘a joyous and passionate celebration’ (The Stage).
Our weekly workshops led by specially trained music leaders and a support worker, offer a fun and friendly introduction to acting and singing skills where no previous experience is necessary.
In Nottingham they take place every Tuesday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Emmanuel House Support Centre and from 4pm – 6pm at Theatre Royal Concert Hall.
