SUN UP, RAIN FALLS, RIVER RISES

12 Jun, 2021 at 12:00 am - 20 Jun, 2021 at 12:00 am

Let Sun Up, Rain Falls, River Rises take you to three different countries as you listen to the memories shared by each writer.

Sun Up, Rain Falls, River Rises is an opportunity to engage with a beautiful audio experience whilst out and about or exercising in your local area. Three audio narratives written by Phosphoros Theatre will transport you to different settings around the globe, allowing a glimpse into the memories of each writer. Three new compositions by Mira Siegel accompany each narrative. Illustrated posters by Pickle Illustration allow QR code access to each piece.

For Refugee Week 2021, we’ve placed the posters in specially selected locations across the UK. Find the list of locations on our website, during Refugee Week, and scan the QR code on each poster to enjoy the stunning illustrations, beautiful sound track and tantalising tales that form Sun Up, Rain Falls, River Rises.

We recommend listening to The Dawning after sunrise, imagining Goitom’s journey as you experience the same calm and stillness of the early morning. After The Rain is best heard after a rain shower, as life resumes its usual pace and the ground and trees are still wet from the downpour. Whether by a lake, a canal or even your garden pond, listening to My Life as a River by water reminds us of the immense power Mohamed witnesses as he grows up by the Nile.

You can find this sound walk installation at Forest Recreation Ground (Gregory Blvd, Forest Fields, NG7 6HB)

‘The Dawning’ by Goitom Fesshaye – The sun comes up on Goitom Fesshaye cycling off to work at his family shop in Eritrea.

• ‘After the Rain’ by Syed Haleem Najibi – Syed Haleem Najibi plays in his glistening village after the rain and finds entertainment in his surroundings.

‘My Life as a River’ by Mohamed Abdu – Mohamed Abdu stands on the banks of the great river Nile in Sudan and wishes he had the same power to cross borders.
