Effy Harle by Mercè Santos

Effy Harle is an artist and arts organiser based between Nottingham and London whose work intertwines design and social practice, addressing questions concerning the gendered division of labour, feminist instituting and interdisciplinary working. Effy also explores the potential and role that art can have in society. She is one of the co-founders of FemTech Nottingham, a group of female art technicians, artists, and curators carving the way for gender balanced tech teams across galleries in the Midlands: @femtechnottingham

Effy was also an exhibiting artist at the NAE Open 2019. Her work “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know” was shaped through a live performance produced in collaboration with her father via a public Skype conversation discussing the hardships of citizenship spanning the family history from communist Hungary to Brexit Britain. The work presented two light boxes depicting her Hungarian and recently acquired British passports exhibited side by side. The imagery created a monument to contrasting sides of citizenship; both an ode to the freedom of movement and a stark reminder of omnipresent state control.
