Supporting diversity in artistic practice is just as important to us during this time of uncertainty. Our Artist Spotlight series aims to highlight artists our team find inspirational.

Katharina Fitz By Cindy Sissokho

Katharina was born in Austria and currently lives and works in Nottingham. She is part of the ExperiMentor artists, NAE’s artist development platform which supports and mentors local artists with their artistic practices.

She works with natural materials such as ceramics, latex, plaster and wood which transposes into sculpture and installation often in reference to architecture and industrial processes.

Her practice questions several subjects such as the hierarchy and value of objects in an age of mass production. As well as relating to the concept of exhausting form and space by the repetition and variation of the objects she creates.

She makes us consider the relationship between the objects on display, the viewer and the space. Her work is very much site-specific and functions as a riddle or game, and she also plays with the reproduction of the intimate artist studio for the viewer to explore.

More information and examples of her work can be found on her website: https://www.katharinafitz.com
