This month two of New Art Exchange’s ExperiMentor artists will be exhibiting exciting new work. On 18th January, photographer Ben Harriott, launches his solo exhibition Footsteps: Memory and Perception at Thoresby Gallery. On 19th January, art collaboration, Sidelong present a one day exhibition at New Art Exchange Underworld: Exhibition and Publication Launch. ExperiMentor is NAE’s programme to support the professional development of artistic practitioners.

On 18th January, Ben Harriot will exhibit a series of work made in response to the country estate at Thoresby Gallery, Newark. Created during his residency at Thoresby Gallery, Ben spent time with workers, getting to know them in their habitual environment, and inviting people to question their own cultural legacy. Through photography he aims to capture the essence of Thoresby and to reveal a reality beyond what is perceptible to the senses. The launch event is 18th January, 11am- 1pm, and the exhibition continues until 9th February. For details, please see the artist residency website www.goodmawn.in, or visit the artist’s website, www.benharriott.com.

On 19th January 3pm-5pm, Sidelong will explore the myths and mysteries of Nottingham caves in a one day exhibition. Presented within an atmospheric exhibition space evocative of a cave, Underworld features a short video of extracts from A Walk Through the Underworld, sound recordings of cave legends, fabricated cave relics, and unique artworks inspired by Nottingham’s cave environments. Underworld marks the launch of Sidelong’s publication A Box of Things, which includes two pamphlets of new writing by Wayne Burrows. Sidelong is an art collaboration between Jo Dacombe and Laura-Jade Klée, committed to exploring the undiscovered or unnoticed in the everyday.
