Digital Diaspora: The Midlands Covid-19 project – photography and film busaries

ReFramed is a Midlands-based network for Black, Asian and other People of Colour communities interested in producing photographic visual art.

ReFramed with Black Country Visual Arts, New Art Exchange and Slanguages & Kala Phool are offering four £500 bursaries for emerging Black, Asian and other People of Colour photographic-based visual artists living within the Midlands. This bursary will enable the selected artists to document and explore the effects of COVID-19 in their communities / homes (whilst also following government guidelines).

About the four bursary awards… and you can apply for all or just one of them

ReFramed and New Art Exchange Film busary
This bursary will be awarded for the production of a short film, and will be showcased on the NAE digital channel in September 2020. The work will therefore need to be complete by the end of August 2020. Reframed will be able to support the successful candidate with their work.

Two Reframed/BCVA awards
ReFramed and BCVA are offering two £500 bursaries for emerging photographic-based visual artists from Black, Asian and other People of Colour communities living within the Midlands. These bursaries will enable two visual artists to document and explore they effects of COVID-19 in their communities / homes (whilst also following government guidelines).

Slanguages & Kala Phool award (inviting applications from BAME females only)
Slanguages and Kala Phool are offering a fourth £500 bursary for an emerging female photographic-based visual artist within the Midlands.

The focus on this particular bursary is to support a female individual to document and explore the female communities along Soho Road and Handsworth in Birmingham.

We want you to respond and reflect creatively to Women from all ages, cultures, class and communities.

We want you to respond and reflect creatively to your lived experience of these current times.

The bursary will support you in creating new work between July and September 2020. The work will feature in a publication as well as online on ReFramed and BCVA platforms, and may be exhibited in the future, once lockdown restrictions are eased.

The selected artists will also receive support and mentoring from the ReFramed team throughout the process.

Applications open: 22 June 2020

All applications closes: 21 July 2020, 9pm.
