YOUnique is an exciting festival organised by and for young people. A weekend of creative workshops, exhibitions, live performances, sport and much more.

Our Barriers, Our Eyes

Collaborating with Captivate and Unanima Theatre, this pop-up exhibition is the result of a journey of learning and exploration by a group of individuals who happen to have learning disabilities. At the beginning of this journey, they had no experience of photography, now they invite you to see through their lens.

Creative Journeys, talk+networking

Hear from industry professionals about their individual journeys in the creative industries. You will also get the opportunity to put your questions to these experts during a short Q & A session. Following the event there will be some time for networking and refreshments.

You will hear from:

Musician, music producer and experienced community artist, Trekkah Benjamin, who has over 15-years’ experience of both project delivery and management of a diverse portfolio of community-focused arts projects.  Through his career he has worked freelance and employed by organisations such as Nottinghamshire YMCA, Send Project, Confetti Studios. Nottingham Trent University, Circle of Light, Digit Music  and Nottingham C.A.N. With extensive experience designing, managing, delivering and evaluating community arts projects for nationally recognised funders such as the Heritage Lottery Foundation, BBC Children in Need, National Foundation for Youth Music and the Arts Council, Trekkah has been involved in an array of projects that span through multiple media arts and technology.

JayaHadADream, born in Cambridge, Jamaican-Irish Jaya is a rising star in the world of hip hop. Her music is a merge of thought-provoking, storytelling lyrics with smooth, soulful hip-hop beats. Reaching new heights with her articulate cadence and melodic sound, such as featuring, she has performed across the UK and worked with artists worldwide, “2023, in particular, marked an exciting period for Jaya as she released a Sounds Of The Verse freestyle for grime titan Sir Spyro’s 1Xtra show; she also featured in the BBC Introducing Cypher to much applause.” – Naz Hamdi, Complex UK 2024.

Author and Senior Lecturer and Module Leader for Fashion Communication and Promotion, Aikaterini Paraskevopoulou. Aikaterini’s work often challenges societal norms and explores themes of social and cultural equality. Her self-published zine, Moan Zine, has reached readers across the world, with distribution and representation in the UK, USA, and Europe. Aikaterini has also illustrated and published books alongside Rapha, Tour de France, The Guilty feminist, Dizzy Ink, and multiple freelance creatives.

Singer-songwriter, rapper, poet, and Entrepreneur Parisa East, who brings together jazz, hip hop and reggae, with her Persian heritage. Parisa’s work in the community includes being a higher education teacher at Confetti ICT, and supporting independent organisations with marketing and copywriting skills. As well as using her live music platform, Acoustickle, to support and spotlight emerging artists, and encourage musicians to share their original compositions with respectful audiences.

YARD Youth Theatre

NAE’s resident youth theatre groups will be sharing the shows they have been working on with facilitator, actress and singer Mellonie Page. This event will feature one showing of each show.

The group have been exploring folk tales and stories from different cultures, passed down through generations; expect storytelling spiders, turtles telling tall stories and fantastic journeys under the sea.

The group have been exploring what it is to be a teenager now, and what it was like to be a teenager throughout the decades, from the 1950’s onwards. Expect movement, monologues and maybe a flared trouser or two!

FRI 15

Acoustickle’s 15th Birthday – 6-10:30pm

Join Acoustickle for its 15th Birthday party as part of YOUnique24. The multidimensional line-up features Alex Mighten, Tracy Luvv, Lyvia, Garton, Megs, Chava, and DJ Just Jai on the decks. Showcasing some of the best talent around, be sure to catch this event!

We will also have a special performance by our Under The Spotlight artists, Khaya Job, Tremelo and Elmz.

Acoustickle is where you can ‘Discover Emerging Artists’, with live music events showcasing diverse, original musicians, especially the genres of RNB, Jazz, Neosoul, Hip Hop and Spoken Word. With decorations, outstanding performances and a warm atmosphere, audiences have enjoyed #AcoustickleMagic for 15 years. Established 2009 in Nottingham, it has a solid track record as ‘thee spot’ to discover up and coming artists.

Nott Another – 12-5pm

Featuring an ecclectic mix of wordsmiths put together by Nott Another, this amazing line up includes; Aalia Zorko, Ingrid Mclaren, Jay Sandhu, Omari Marsalis, Chris Oliver and Cara Thompson. Featuring sets by DJ’s; ALF, Tano and DJ²

YOUnique24 Headline stage – 5-10:30pm

To finish off this year’s festival our Young Producers have put together an amazing line of artists. With DJ sets and hosting by Lemon Eye, the event will feature; HarleighBlu, Jayahadadream and Gang of Angels choir, Molly, Phe B and C Bliminal.

Continuing with the takeover of NAE, local creatives will feature in a stacked lineup of local selectors. The stage will also feature immersive live visuals from Hamish Creates of Anarchy Studios and art installations from Rights for Flies and Pasted Mind.
