Self Portraits: Looking Back to 1981 – Call Out

As part of a programme of community activity around Self Portraits: Looking Back to 1981 by Roger Suckling we have launched a call for residents of Hyson Green past and present to get in touch if they know any of the faces that feature the exhibition, or perhaps recognise their younger selves.

As part of a programme of community activity around Self Portraits: Looking Back to 1981 by Roger Suckling we have launched a call for residents of Hyson Green past and present to get in touch if they know any of the faces that feature the exhibition, or perhaps recognise their younger selves. The exhibition comprises of self-portraits taken in June 1981 outside Nottingham Community Arts Centre (NCAC), the site that is now home to New Art Exchange, presenting a snapshot of the community living and working in the area 40 years ago.

We are also looking for members of the public to get in touch with their photographs, memories, and artifacts from the area, that help to tell the story of Hyson Green’s rich history. You are invited you to bring these to New Art Exchange on Thursday 30 September, when we will share and discuss these personal archives and stories of the neighbourhood over tea and cake at the A Picture of Hyson Green event.

Get in touch at [email protected] with the subject ‘Looking Back to 1981’.

Self Portraits: Looking Back to 1981 is open at New Art Exchange 14 August – 9 October 2021.
