NAE Open 2023 Awards Winners

 

On Saturday 15 July the NAE Open 23 Awards ceremony took place and we’re pleased to announce the winners are:

NOTTINGHAM CONTEMPORARY LIVE ART PRIZE | DIPESH PANYDA

An artist development opportunity awarded to a practitioner working with performance or other forms of live art. The opportunity will be tailored, in conversation with the Nottingham Contemporary’s Live Programmes team, to the needs of the artist, but might include mentoring and advice, project development support, and access to rehearsal space in Nottingham Contemporary’s large-scale auditorium. Selected by Canan Batur and Philippa Douglas from the Nottingham Contemporary Live Programmes team. Watch the performance.

QUAD/FORMAT FESTIVAL PHOTOGRAPHY PRIZE | MARYAM OJIKUTU

A two-week residency for a lens-based media artist in QUAD’s dedicated Artist Studio space with mentoring and advice sessions with the QUAD/FORMAT curatorial team, and three monthly mentoring sessions thereafter. The prize winner will also get a chance to take over our QUAD Gallery Instagram account, to post work, texts and ideas. Selected by QUAD and Format Festival’s curatorial team.

PRIMARY RESIDENCY PRIZE | MADI ACHARYA-BASKERVILLE

A two-week residency awarded to an artist from the Global Ethnic Majority living anywhere in the UK. Fee of £1000, access to a project space at Primary in 2023. Mentoring support, conversation with Primary’s artist community and the opportunity to present work to an audience. Selected by Colette Griffin, Artist Development Curator, Chloe Willis, Programme Assistant, and Wayne Burrow, Studio Holder at Primary.

NAE EXHIBITION PRIZE | MANISH HARIJAN

Awarded to an artist from the Global Ethnic Majority and including a commissioning grant, mentoring support with a future exhibition or performance held NAE in 2024/2025. Selected by the NAE team and an assembly of community and sector-wide representatives.

NAE RESIDENCY PRIZE | JANE THAKOORDIN

Awarded to an artist from the Global Ethnic Majority and including a future residency at NAE inclusive of financial support, provision of an artist’s studio space, and mentoring support from the team. Selected by the NAE team and an assembly of community and sector-wide representatives.

JUDGES PRIZE | TARANEH DANA

Cash award of £1,200. Selected by the NAE Open 2023 panel of advocates including neighbours, artists and curators, Ismail Khokon, Kim Thompson and Sebah Chaudhry.
