New Art Exchange presents a solo exhibition of recent work by international, award-winning artist Zineb Sedira. The exhibition includes a major new work, Floating Coffins, commissioned by New Art Exchange, with production support by Arts Admin, London. This comprises of a 14 screen high definition installation with a sound piece by Mikhail Karikas.

Floating Coffins, a new commission exploring the world’s largest shipping graveyard outside the harbour city of Nouadhibou, West Africa, is another new departure in her work. Again, there is the common themes of displacement and the sea, but with this new work, a distance is kept, where the narrative concentrates more on a world removed from her family experience, and observed through the use of the metaphor of shipwrecks to express the struggle of the displaced West African communities also wishing to escape from Africa to Europe. The human form becomes less prominent in Floating Coffins, and the landscape takes a prominent place, allowing the viewer to be seduced by an uncomfortable natural beauty.
